Day 1: Saigon - Mekong Delta
You will be greeted at your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City for a morning 2-hour drive south to the Ben Tre district. Known as the gateway of the Mekong, this region is most famous for its beautiful coconut plantations. Our bike route will bring you along basic concrete paths leading you through exotic gardens connected by narrow canals. Navigating through tiny villages, across peaceful rivers and through vibrant gardens you’ll get a sample of the beauty that this southern region has to offer. As you bike further into the rural zones of the region you’ll get a true sense of what life is like for people living in this tranquil corner of the country. You’ll have the chance to meet and chat with some locals and we will ultimately be staying at one of their homestays for the night (locally-inspired meals will be served for dinner… delicious!)
Day 2: Mekong Delta - Saigon
After breakfast at the homestay we will continue on our bicycle journey through the villages to a small boat launch. Here we will board a traditional vessel and make for Cai Be and its iconic floating markets. Have your cameras ready as this is one of the Mekong’s most interesting and picturesque visits! Local vendors wholesale their fruits and vegetables to other water-bound purchasers in a veritable water world- truly an unforgettable sight! We will enjoy some more cruising through tiny waterways in the veins of the Delta region, visit a few villages and sample their local delicacies (coconut candies, popcorn and crispy rice crackers) and top it off with a local lunch in one of the villages. We will return to the hotel in Saigon in the late afternoon.
